Why I designed it

It started with wanting something a little more playful in the Staey lineup – a product that was genuinely fun for dogs without clashing with the clean aesthetic we'd built. Finding that balance, something goofy enough for dogs but still unmistakably Staey, is what led to the Squeaker Balls.

What it took to get right

Getting the colours right took longer than expected – what looks good on a mood board doesn't always translate to a ball, and we needed grey and taupe that still read as intentional next to each other rather than just neutral. Finding the right words for the print took just as many rounds. We wanted something that felt like Staey without being too serious, and "Dogs just wanna staey goofy" only landed when we stopped overthinking it. Ball quality was non-negotiable throughout the whole process – we tested several materials before settling on one that could actually take a beating without losing its shape.

That's when the set started to feel like something worth putting the Staey name on.
