The story behind it
Why I designed it
I created the original Lara car seat out of pure necessity. I was constantly juggling between dog beds, travel bags, and car setups that just didn’t feel safe or practical. I wanted one beautiful, functional solution that could do it all – and still feel soft, cozy, and stylish enough to live in your home.
The first version worked well for many, but I quickly saw the need for something bigger and better. That’s how Lara 2.0 came to life – designed for small and medium-sized dogs who deserve their own comfortable base, wherever they go.
What it took to get it right
Designing a 3-in-1 product sounds great on paper – but in reality, it’s a puzzle. The car seat needed to feel light as a bag, sturdy enough for safety, soft enough as a bed, and intuitive to use.
We tested different shapes, foams, and straps. Some were too floppy. Others didn’t sit right in the car. The fold-down front cushion alone took weeks to get just right – not too stiff, not too loose, and perfectly balanced between visibility and shelter.
In the end, Lara 2.0 became exactly what I imagined: a product that adapts to everyday life, not the other way around.

My story
Hi, I’m Noa – designer and founder of Staey. I live in Denmark with my dog Alba, and I started Staey because I was tired of choosing between functionality and aesthetics.
Every Staey design starts with real moments from my life with my own Alba. I sketch the first ideas at my kitchen table, and my team and I test, tweak and adjust until it works – for your dog and for you. Because practical can (and should) look beautiful.
